Monsters of the Midway: The Legacy of the Chicago Bears
Abstract
This thesis explores the rich legacy of the Chicago Bears. By focusing on key players and coaches such as George Halas, Mike Ditka, and Walter Payton, my thesis focuses on the roles that they have played in forming the legacy and history of the Chicago Bears. George Halas, as the founder of the franchise. Mike Ditka’s coaching tenure and bringing a Super Bowl championship to Chicago. And Walter Payton, a legendary running back who exemplified both athletic prowess and involvement in the community and became the golden bar for measuring success in the NFL. Through an analysis of these important players and coaches, this thesis covers the lasting impact on the legacy of both the NFL and the Chicago Bears.
About Me
My name is Seth Maxwell, a senior at Wakefield School in The Plains, Virginia. I will be attending Northern Virginia Community College. I have been a Bears fan for over a decade and a fan of football for even longer than that. I decided to research more about my favorite football team and their legacy. I enjoyed researching Bears greats such as George Halas, Mike Ditka, and Walter Payton. I believe that the Bears franchise history is worth noting as they are one of the founding teams who joined the league upon its creation. It is important to acknowledge the history of such a storied franchise and to also look to future generations of players to carry on their legacy.
